The day starts early, with an 8 am departure from Cairns, and by 9:30 am, we were at the Moore Reef pontoon. This floating platform is packed with activities that cater to everyone, from avid snorkelers to those who just want to relax and soak in the views. The coral gardens here are vibrant, showcasing a wide variety of hard and soft corals, anemones, and giant clams, all within an easy swim from the pontoon. We loved the waterslide that drops you right into the reef waters – a thrilling experience for Ethan and a fun way to dive into the day.
A highlight for us was the Seawalker Helmet Dive. For anyone who isn’t a confident swimmer, this is an amazing way to experience the reef. Guided by supportive divers, we walked along the reef floor surrounded by vibrant sea fans and colourful fish. An underwater photographer captured the moment, creating the perfect souvenir to remember this unique reef experience.
Lunch and Leisure on Fitzroy Island

After an exciting morning on the reef, we boarded the boat and headed to Fitzroy Island for a delicious buffet lunch at Zephyrs Restaurant. With a spread that includes fresh salads, seafood, hot dishes, and tropical fruits, there was something for everyone to enjoy.
Post-lunch, we had a few hours to explore Fitzroy Island. We took the scenic Secret Garden Walk, winding through rainforest paths, and then headed over to Nudey Beach – a beautiful beach that’s regularly ranked among Australia’s best. Here, we enjoyed a swim in the crystal-clear waters and did some snorkeling right off the beach. The water was teeming with soft corals, boulders, and even a stingray nestled under the rocks, making it a fantastic snorkel spot for all ages.
Relaxing Return to Cairns
As we cruised back to Cairns with ice creams in hand (the boysenberry was a hit!), we couldn’t help but feel grateful for the day. The crew was friendly and knowledgeable, making sure everyone had a comfortable and memorable experience.
